Tax Accountant Job Description

A Tax Accountant is a foundational member of any Canadian corporate accounting team, primarily responsible for supporting the organization's tax compliance and reporting. This role involves assisting with the preparation of various tax filings, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, and other statutory returns. The Tax Accountant performs research, reconciles tax accounts, and helps gather necessary documentation to ensure accurate and timely reporting. They possess a strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and a keen eye for detail. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required, with a preference for candidates who have started or intend to pursue a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. A foundational knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations is essential.

Typical tax accountant duties:

Assist in the preparation of Canadian corporate tax returns and related filings.Prepare and reconcile GST/HST returns, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations.Support the tax provision process for financial reporting.Gather and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness for tax purposes.Assist with tax research to interpret and apply Canadian tax legislation.Reconcile tax accounts and help maintain tax-related records.Collaborate with the finance team to gather information for tax audits and inquiries.
