A Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and review of various tax filings and related financial data. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with tax laws, supporting tax planning initiatives, and assisting with tax provision calculations. The Senior Tax Accountant often handles more complex tax issues, performs detailed tax research, and may provide guidance to junior staff. This position demands strong technical tax knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency with tax software. Typically, 3-5 years of progressive experience in taxation or corporate accounting with a tax focus is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is essential, with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation being highly preferred. A solid understanding of Canadian federal and provincial tax laws is crucial.

Typical senior tax accountant duties:

Prepare and review various Canadian corporate, personal, or commodity tax returns (e.g., T2, T1, GST/HST).Conduct tax research and analysis on specific tax issues or transactions.Assist with tax provision calculations for financial reporting purposes.Reconcile tax accounts and maintain accurate tax records.Support tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities (e.g., CRA).Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements.Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate tax accounting and reporting.May mentor or provide guidance to junior tax staff.
