Product Controller Job Description

Product controllers play a critical role in financial institutions by ensuring the accuracy of trading desk profit and loss (P&L), balance sheet reporting and valuation. These professionals act as financial guardians, working closely with front-office teams to monitor risk, validate pricing and support regulatory compliance.

Typical product controller duties:

Producing and analyzing daily, weekly and monthly P&L reports for trading desksInvestigating and resolving discrepancies in revenue, valuation and risk metricsCollaborating with trading, risk management and finance teams to ensure accurate reportingValidating pricing models and market data inputs used in financial toolsMonitoring balance sheet positions and ensuring proper accounting treatmentSupporting month-end close processes and financial statement preparationAssisting with regulatory reporting and audit requestsEnhancing control frameworks and implementing process improvementsStaying current on financial products, valuation techniques and industry regulations
