Financial Reporting Accountant Job Description

The Financial Reporting Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and transparency of an organization's financial health in Canada. This role will be responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining accounting records, and supporting the overall financial reporting process according to Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (CGAAP). Typically, 2-5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is essential, with candidates actively pursuing or having completed a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation being highly preferred. Proficiency in Canadian accounting standards (ASPE and IFRS) is a key requirement.

Typical financial reporting accountant duties:

Prepare and analyze various financial statements and reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with CGAAP.Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Perform detailed general ledger account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.Ensure all financial reporting is in compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and company policies.Support external audit activities by preparing requested documentation and explanations.Contribute to financial analysis, providing insights on trends and variances.Assist with the documentation and improvement of financial reporting processes and internal controls.
