Senior Accountant Job Description

A Senior Accountant is a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional responsible for complex accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role plays a crucial part in the month-end and year-end close processes, performing intricate reconciliations, analyzing financial data, and preparing comprehensive reports. The Senior Accountant often provides guidance to junior staff, assists with audit preparations, and contributes to the implementation of accounting policies and controls. This position demands a strong understanding of accounting principles, advanced proficiency with accounting software, and excellent problem-solving skills. Typically, 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is essential, and candidates actively pursuing or having completed a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation are highly preferred. Proficiency in Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and relevant tax regulations is a key requirement.

Typical senior accountant duties:

Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and company policies.Assist with the preparation of tax filings and support tax-related inquiries.Support external audit processes by preparing audit schedules and providing necessary documentation.Investigate and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and issues.Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and internal controls.Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
