A SOX auditor is responsible for evaluating and testing internal controls designed to support compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and related financial reporting requirements. These professionals assess business processes, review control activities and identify areas where organizations can strengthen governance, risk management and compliance efforts. As regulatory expectations continue to evolve and organizations face increased scrutiny over financial reporting, SOX auditors play an important role in supporting transparency, accountability and effective internal controls.SOX auditors work closely with accounting, finance, internal audit and compliance leaders to evaluate control environments and support remediation efforts when deficiencies are identified. Their work helps organizations maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, improve control effectiveness and reduce operational and financial risk.

Typical SOX auditor duties:

Plan and perform SOX compliance reviews, internal control testing and assessments of financial reporting processesEvaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls and document testing procedures, results and control assessmentsIdentify control deficiencies, support remediation efforts and collaborate with accounting, finance and operational teams to assess compliance requirementsMonitor changes in business processes, regulations and control environments that may affect SOX compliancePrepare audit reports and communicate findings while identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls, compliance processes and governance practices
