Software and Applications Manager Job Description

Managers of software and applications development lead a team of software and applications developers, IT business analysts, and IT developers in defining detailed business requirements to support strategic goals. They oversee the entire process of developing or enhancing computer software and programs; coordinating resources; and acting as a liaison between the development team and other departments and project stakeholders. They also help to oversee application program design, development and implementation, and they build relationships with vendors and external teams. Employers look for candidates with a bachelor’s degree in the technology field, four years of IT experience and two to three years of experience managing a development team.

Typical software and applications manager duties:

Directing all aspects of software and applications development processes, and hiring, training, and guiding development staffDesigning development and systems analysis to create new applications or install and implement software purchased from vendorsEvaluating application programs for efficiency and documentation, and ensuring that output meets the needs of users and business goalsEstablishing software development standards and processes, and implementing best practices for delivering scalable and high-quality software
