IT Manager Job Description

IT managers oversee the planning, implementation and maintenance of an organization’s technology infrastructure. This leadership role manages IT operations, ensuring system reliability and supporting business objectives through effective use of modern technologies. IT managers play a key role in cloud strategy, SaaS platform integration and adoption of advanced IT operations practices, such as DevOps, AIOps and MLOps. They work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable and efficient IT solutions that align with organizational goals.

Typical IT manager duties:

Lead the day-to-day operations of the IT department, including network administration, help desk support, system maintenance, cloud infrastructure and SaaS platformsDevelop and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices to ensure system security and complianceManage IT projects, including software upgrades, hardware installations, cloud migrations and SaaS onboardingCollaborate with business leaders to identify technology needs and recommend innovative, cost-effective solutionsOversee vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for IT services and productsMonitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and disruptionsStay current on IT operations methodologies, tools and best practices related to DevOps, AIOps and MLOpsEnsure that data integrity, backup and disaster recovery protocols are in place and tested regularlySupervise IT staff, providing training, mentorship and performance evaluations to build a high-performing team
