A fund accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial records and reporting activities of investment funds, including mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity funds and real estate funds. These professionals help ensure the accuracy of fund valuations, investment transactions and financial reporting while supporting compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. As investment strategies, reporting obligations and investor expectations continue to evolve, fund accountants play a critical role in supporting transparency, operational efficiency and informed decision-making.Fund accountants work closely with portfolio managers, fund administrators, custodians, auditors and other finance professionals to monitor fund activity, prepare financial reports and help ensure accurate accounting treatment of investments. Their work supports the timely delivery of financial information to stakeholders and contributes to the effective management of fund operations.

Typical fund accountant duties:

Calculate and review net asset values (NAVs), reconcile fund activity and maintain accurate accounting records for investment fundsRecord and reconcile investment transactions, including purchases, sales, income, expenses and cash activityPrepare financial statements, investor reports and supporting schedules to support internal and external reporting requirementsCoordinate with custodians, fund administrators, auditors and other stakeholders to support reporting, compliance and audit activitiesSupport month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes while identifying opportunities to improve fund accounting procedures, reporting accuracy and operational efficiency
