Building a shared service centre
Case study
Business situation
A British furniture manufacturer sought our support when setting up a Shared Service Centre (SSC). With multiple subsidiary companies the project would bring all transactional processing to one site to streamline processes for the organisation.
Our approach
We worked closely with our client to understand requirements for the new SSC and the wider business situation, including an invoicing backlog and a planned systems change.
The organisation had experienced hiring challenges including a relatively remote rural location which narrowed the candidate pool. This led to an over-reliance on temporary staff and affected the working environment, including internal communications processes and knowledge transfer across teams.
Our sourcing strategy included honest communication with potential candidates to provide a realistic insight into the organisation’s challenges, while at the same time making clear the positives of working for the company and the value of each opportunity.
Value delivered
Supported by our wider South West networks, our local branch identified the required candidates to support our client in building a finance team within their new SSC site.
With a focus on permanent hiring, we placed 20 finance candidates over a 12-month period. Roles included Purchase and Sales Ledger Clerks, Credit Controllers, Accountants and an SSC Customer Services Manager.
Assessment stages included first-stages interviews on a virtual basis and second-stage interviews at the client’s offices. We also supported onboarding for these roles (including remote onboarding processes during lockdown restrictions).
We continue to support our client since the completion of this project, having filled a further 30 vacancies across permanent and temporary hiring including finance as well as technology roles.
