- <p>Robert Half is partnering with a client in the transportation industry to hire an <strong>Assistant Controller </strong>in Richmond Hill, Ontario.</p><p>This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in the organization’s accounting and finance function while gaining exposure to all areas of the business.</p><p>Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will support financial operations across reporting, close, budgeting, compliance, payroll, and operational cost analysis. This role is well suited to a hands-on accounting professional who is eager to learn the business from the ground up, contribute cross-functionally, and grow into broader leadership responsibilities over time.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><p><strong>Financial Reporting and Close</strong></p><ul><li>Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes</li><li>Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP</li><li>Analyze budget-to-actual results and provide variance commentary</li><li>Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee account reconciliations</li></ul><p><strong>Operational Accounting</strong></p><ul><li>Monitor and analyze fleet-related costs, including fuel, maintenance, leasing, and depreciation</li><li>Support revenue recognition for freight, logistics, contract, and mileage-based billing</li><li>Track and report on cost-per-mile, cost-per-route, and asset utilization metrics</li><li>Assist with accounting for equipment purchases, leases, and disposals</li></ul><p><strong>Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis</strong></p><ul><li>Assist with annual budgets and rolling forecasts</li><li>Partner with operations to align financial planning with route and fleet activity</li><li>Prepare financial models and support scenario analysis for business decisions</li></ul><p><strong>Controls, Compliance, and Risk</strong></p><ul><li>Help maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting</li><li>Support compliance with applicable regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements</li><li>Assist with external audits, insurance reporting, claims accounting, and risk management</li><li>Ensure required renewals, certifications, and annual filings are completed on time</li></ul><p><strong>Process Oversight</strong></p><ul><li>Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities</li><li>Support billing accuracy, collections, cash flow, and working capital management</li><li>Oversee payroll processing for operational and administrative employees</li><li>Monitor labour costs and support compliance with wage and overtime requirements</li></ul><p><strong>Leadership and Collaboration</strong></p><ul><li>Supervise and support accounting team members</li><li>Partner with operations, dispatch, and fleet teams to provide financial insight</li><li>Serve as backup to the Controller as needed</li></ul>
