Legal assistants in Canada play a vital role in supporting lawyers and ensuring the smooth operation of a law firm or legal department. These roles offer an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the legal field and contribute to a fast-paced environment.

Typical legal assistant duties:

Provide administrative and legal support to lawyers, including: Scheduling appointments, meetings, and court appearances. Managing calendars and deadlines. Preparing and maintaining legal documents (e.g., contracts, wills, affidavits) from handwritten notes, dictation, or electronic files. Proofreading and editing legal documents for accuracy and formatting. Conducting basic legal research (as directed by a lawyer). Organizing and maintaining legal files electronically and physically. Manage client communication, including: Responding to client inquiries and requests in a professional and courteous manner (may include some phone calls or emails). Preparing client intake forms and other documents. Assist with case preparation, including: Collecting and organizing case documents and evidence. Preparing legal exhibits and presentations.
