HR Director Job Description

An HR Director is a senior executive responsible for leading and strategically aligning all human resources functions with the overall business objectives. This role develops and implements comprehensive HR strategies covering talent acquisition, compensation & benefits, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development. The HR Director acts as a key advisor to senior leadership, fostering a positive work environment, driving employee engagement, and ensuring compliance with all labour laws. This position demands exceptional leadership, profound strategic vision, strong business acumen, and a proven ability to manage complex human capital challenges. Typically, 12-15+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role, is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is essential, with a Master's Degree or Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE) / Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation highly preferred. A deep and current understanding of Canadian employment legislation (federal and provincial) is paramount.

Typical HR director duties:

Develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals.Oversee talent acquisition, retention, and succession planning initiatives.Manage compensation, benefits, and total rewards programs.Advise on employee relations issues, grievance procedures, and performance management.Ensure compliance with all Canadian employment standards, human rights, and labour laws.Lead organizational development, change management, and training programs.Foster a positive workplace culture and drive employee engagement.Manage HR budgeting, reporting, and analytics to inform business decisions.
