Financial Reporting Accountant Job Description

Financial reporting accountants play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of a company’s financial statements. These professionals are responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and often collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support audits, compliance and strategic decision making.

Typical financial reporting accountant duties:

Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAPAssisting with SEC filings, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs and other regulatory reports, if applicablePerforming variance analysis and reconciling general ledger accountsSupporting internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiriesCollaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data and reportingMaintaining and improving reporting processes and internal controlsResearching and interpreting accounting standards to ensure complianceAssisting with the implementation of new accounting policies and proceduresParticipating in special projects, including system upgrades and process improvements
