Dispatcher job description

The dispatcher coordinates and monitors the movement of personnel, vehicles or shipments to ensure timely and efficient service. This role manages schedules, communicates with drivers and customers, and resolves issues to keep operations running smoothly.Working closely with logistics teams, service providers and clients, the dispatcher tracks deliveries, updates records and responds to inquiries. This position plays a critical role in maintaining workflow efficiency and delivering exceptional customer service.

Typical Dispatcher duties

Schedule and dispatch drivers, vehicles or service personnel based on workload and priorities.Communicate with drivers and customers to provide updates and resolve scheduling conflicts.Track routes, delivery times and service progress using dispatch software or tracking systems.Maintain accurate records of assignments, mileage and delivery confirmations.Respond promptly to emergencies, delays or changes in service requirements.Coordinate with internal teams to ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards.Prepare reports on dispatch activities and performance metrics.Support process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operational delays.
