Corporate Controller Job Description

Corporate controllers oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions of a company and should have strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Businesses prefer candidates with a CPA, CGMA or CMA, a master’s degree in business administration and experience working in public accounting. The job typically requires 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, with five years in a managerial capacity.

Typical corporate controller duties:

Managing accounts payable/accounts receivable, payroll and financial reporting transactionsPerforming analysis on financial results, trends, costs and budgetsPreparing forecast reports for income, expenses and earningsEnsuring that accounting activities are in compliance with GAAP and, if needed, IFRSPreparing tax schedules and returns and ensuring that corporate income tax compliance is accurateCreating and implementing policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issuesCreating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate
