Senior Director Engineering
We are looking for an accomplished technology leader to guide the growth and performance of our engineering presence in Toronto, Ontario. This contract opportunity is suited to someone who can shape long-term technical direction, strengthen delivery practices, and build an inclusive, high-performing team culture. The successful candidate will connect enterprise priorities with local execution across software engineering, platform capabilities, quality practices, and data- and AI-enabled initiatives.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Set the strategic direction for the Toronto engineering organization, including team structure, capability development, and an operating model that supports future growth.<br>• Lead delivery for locally based engineering teams by driving reliable outcomes across timelines, product quality, service stability, and business commitments.<br>• Strengthen development standards by advancing modern practices in code quality, automated testing, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and technical documentation.<br>• Provide senior technical guidance on the practical and responsible use of AI and machine learning tools within engineering workflows, products, and internal platforms.<br>• Build and mentor leadership talent by recruiting, coaching, and retaining managers and senior technical contributors across engineering, quality, DevOps, and site reliability functions.<br>• Partner with cross-functional leaders in architecture, security, infrastructure, finance, and people operations to align delivery plans, workforce planning, and governance expectations.<br>• Foster an engaged and inclusive workplace culture that encourages accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.<br>• Oversee operational excellence through effective incident response, environment management, on-call readiness, risk controls, and performance metric tracking.<br>• Manage engineering budgets for people, tools, and technology investments while monitoring productivity, quality indicators, and service outcomes.<br>• Represent the Toronto development centre in senior leadership discussions and ensure local practices remain aligned with broader organizational standards.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering leadership, including responsibility for large-scale software delivery and organizational development.<br>• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary technology teams in areas such as software engineering, quality assurance, DevOps, site reliability, or platform engineering.<br>• Strong background in technical leadership with the ability to translate enterprise strategy into executable engineering plans and measurable outcomes.<br>• Experience working with artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives, including oversight of responsible adoption within products or engineering processes.<br>• Solid understanding of modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD, observability, reliability management, and engineering quality frameworks.<br>• Proven ability to manage senior stakeholders, budgets, headcount planning, and cross-functional partnerships in complex corporate environments.<br>• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence decisions and represent engineering priorities at leadership forums.<br>• Familiarity with enterprise technology environments that may include CRM platforms, database systems, research-driven analysis, and QA management practices.
