Intermediate Accountant
Position Summary Our client is seeking a hands-on and technically strong General Accountant to join our finance team. This role serves as a key accounting resource between the accounting clerks and senior finance leadership, supporting multiple business units in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. <br> The successful candidate will be a versatile accounting detail oriented with strong knowledge of reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, cash flow management, and full-cycle accounting processes. This individual will act as a primary point of support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, helping to troubleshoot issues, answer accounting questions, and ensure accurate financial reporting across multiple entities. <br> Key Responsibilities Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including payroll entries, accruals, allocations, and other month-end adjustments. Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness. Assist with month-end close activities across multiple companies and business units. Monitor bank accounts, review cash activity, and support ongoing cash flow management. Process and reconcile cash receipts and ensure timely application of payments. Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions during peak workloads or absences. Serve as the first point of contact for accounting clerks requiring guidance on transactions, reconciliations, and accounting processes. Analyze and resolve reconciliation issues, accounting discrepancies, and transactional exceptions. Review customer accounts and assist with credit hold releases in accordance with company policies. Assist in the preparation and filing of sales tax remittances and other government reporting requirements. Support system-related initiatives, process improvements, and accounting workflow enhancements. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company procedures. Work collaboratively with finance leadership to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. Provide accounting support across multiple entities, maintaining accurate records and meeting reporting deadlines.
Qualifications Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including: Journal entries Accruals and prepaids Reconciliations Cash management Month-end close processes Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Experience working in a multi-entity or multi-company environment is highly preferred. Ability to explain accounting transactions and their impact on financial statements. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Experience supporting, mentoring, or providing guidance to entry level accounting staff is an asset. Advanced proficiency with ERP and accounting systems. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA designation or pursuit of designation is considered an asset but is not required. You understand how the pieces of accounting fit together, from AP and AR transactions through month-end close, and you are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to support the team wherever needed.
