This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking to join a busy and collaborative finance team within a dynamic environment.This role will initially be offered on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent for the successful candidate.<h2>The Role</h2>Reporting into the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and deadlines are met.<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Processing purchase invoices and matching them to purchase orders</li><li>Raising and processing sales invoices</li><li>Managing supplier statement reconciliations</li><li>Assisting with payment runs and supplier payments</li><li>Posting cash receipts and allocating customer payments</li><li>Bank reconciliations and investigation of discrepancies</li><li>Maintaining accurate customer and supplier accounts</li><li>Supporting credit control activities and chasing outstanding debt</li><li>Resolving invoice, payment and account queries</li><li>Assisting with month-end processes, including accruals and prepayments</li><li>Preparing finance reports and spreadsheets as required</li><li>Maintaining finance records and ensuring data accuracy</li><li>Supporting audits and compliance activities</li><li>Assisting with ad hoc finance and administrative duties</li></ul><h2>About You</h2><ul><li>Previous experience within a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role</li><li>Strong understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes</li><li>Experience with reconciliations and high-volume transaction processing</li><li>Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel</li><li>Strong attention to detail and organisational skills</li><li>Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively</li><li>Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment</li><li>AAT study or qualification would be advantageous but not essential</li></ul><h2>What's on Offer</h2><ul><li>Temp-to-perm opportunity with long-term career prospects</li><li>Join a supportive and growing finance team</li><li>Full-time office-based role in Telford</li><li>Competitive salary and benefits package</li><li>Opportunity to develop skills and progress within the finance function</li></ul> Robert Half Ltd acts as an employment business for temporary positions and an employment agency for permanent positions. It offers the opportunity to join an entrepreneurial environment with an established operation, where finance plays an important role in supporting business performance and future growth.This is a key appointment within a close-knit team, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, work closely with senior leadership and make a tangible contribution to the continued development of the business.<h3>The role</h3>Reporting to the senior finance leadership team, the Financial Controller will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and robust processes.The role offers a varied blend of technical accounting, team leadership and commercial business partnering. You will lead a small finance team, remaining hands-on with the detail while providing the financial insight needed to support business performance and decision-making.This would suit someone who enjoys working in a dynamic SME environment, where initiative, adaptability and a pragmatic approach are valued.<h3>Key responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Own the month-end close process, delivering accurate and timely management accounts.</li><li>Oversee the general ledger, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.</li><li>Maintain robust financial controls, accounting policies and reporting procedures.</li><li>Lead, support and develop a small finance team, including two Assistant Accountants.</li><li>Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling.</li><li>Provide commercial analysis and insight to support business planning and strategic decisions.</li><li>Partner with senior stakeholders, communicating financial performance clearly and managing expectations.</li><li>Monitor results against budgets and forecasts, identifying risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.</li><li>Oversee statutory reporting, audit requirements and compliance with relevant accounting standards.</li><li>Review and improve finance systems, processes and reporting to support the business as it grows.</li><li>Work closely with the leadership team to ensure finance supports operational performance and future growth.</li></ul><h3>About you</h3>You will be a technically strong and commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting involved in the detail.You will ideally have:<ul><li>A recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with at least two years' post-qualification experience.</li><li>Strong technical accounting skills and experience across financial control and reporting.</li><li>A solid grounding in month-end, balance sheet management and financial controls.</li><li>Experience of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling.</li><li>The ability to lead and develop a small team while remaining hands-on.</li><li>Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems and financial data.</li><li>Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.</li><li>A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to challenge constructively and improve processes.</li></ul>Experience in an SME, owner-managed or entrepreneurial business would be advantageous.
