Wireless Network Engineer Job Description

Wireless network engineers in Canada design, configure and troubleshoot a company's wireless LAN and other wireless technologies. This role provides support for customer and/or internal wireless LAN network operations, performs maintenance and security implementations, and collaborates with key team members to provide strategies for better systems performance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required as well as practical experience in wireless equipment, standards, protocols, and WLAN design. Employers usually seek a bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science (or equivalent work experience), plus five or more years’ experience with enterprise-level wireless LAN support and technologies in a multivendor environment. Certifications such as the Certified Wireless Network Expert (CWNE), Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Wireless (CCIE Wireless) are also helpful.

Typical wireless network engineer duties:

Deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining wireless networks, including all engineering-specific and resource requirements for network hardware and software. Providing recommendations for network architecture and optimization for wireless and mobile technology. Documenting network infrastructure and design.
