A Senior Paralegal provides advanced legal support by independently managing complex legal matters, conducting research and overseeing the preparation of legal documentation with minimal lawyer supervision. They apply paralegal expertise to support case management, maintain legal accuracy and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and professional standards.Working closely with lawyers, junior paralegals, legal assistants, clients, courts and other legal professionals, Senior Paralegals manage deadlines, assist with litigation matters, guide junior team members and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of legal processes.

Typical senior paralegal duties:

Draft, review and revise legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, affidavits, applications, discovery materials, correspondence and other legal documentation.Conduct legal research and prepare summaries, reports and supporting materials for lawyer review.Prepare trial records, appeal books, application records and hearing materials.Independently manage complex case files, legal documentation, calendars, deadlines and matter-related activities across multiple files.Coordinate with clients, courts, tribunals and third parties to support the progress of legal matters.Assist with litigation preparation, including organizing exhibits, evidence, witness materials and case documentation.Support lawyers during discoveries, examinations for discovery, hearings, trials and other legal proceedings.Monitor changes to Canadian laws, regulations and legal requirements and ensure documentation and processes remain current.Manage electronic filing through Court Services Online and other filing platforms.Supervise, train and mentor junior paralegals, legal assistants and litigation support staff where applicable.Maintain confidentiality of client information and ensure compliance with professional obligations, privacy requirements and organizational policies.Identify opportunities to improve legal processes, document management practices and overall team efficiency.
