Senior Internal Auditor

Senior Internal Auditor Job Description

A Senior Internal Auditor is a responsible for conducting complex audit engagements, assessing internal controls, and identifying risks within the organization's financial, operational, and compliance processes. This role involves leading specific audit projects, executing detailed testing, and developing actionable recommendations to enhance efficiency and safeguard assets. The Senior Internal Auditor often mentors junior audit staff and collaborates closely with management to drive improvements. Candidates must possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a meticulous attention to detail. Typically, 4-7 years of progressive experience in internal audit or public accounting is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential, and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation is highly preferred. A solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS), corporate governance, and regulatory requirements is critical.

Typical senior internal auditor duties:

Lead and execute internal audit engagements from planning and fieldwork to reporting.Perform in-depth analysis and testing of financial, operational, and IT controls.Document audit findings, risks, and provide clear, concise recommendations for improvement.Communicate audit results and observations effectively to management and stakeholders.Mentor and provide guidance to junior internal auditors on engagement execution and methodology.Follow up on the implementation of management's corrective actions.Stay current with internal audit standards, industry best practices, and relevant Canadian laws and regulations.
