Paralegal Job Description

Paralegals in Canada are key members of a legal team, assisting lawyers with various legal tasks and ensuring the smooth operation of law firms and legal departments. This position offers an opportunity to utilize legal knowledge and skills while gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced environment.

Typical paralegal duties:

Conduct legal research on assigned topics, analyzing case law, legislation, and legal resources. Prepare legal documents (such as wills, contracts, affidavits, and pleadings) following established formats and procedures. Draft legal correspondence (letters, emails) to clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in legal matters. Assist with client communication, including scheduling appointments, responding to inquiries, and potentially attending client meetings (depending on the role). Organize and summarize case documents and evidence for legal proceedings. Prepare legal exhibits and presentations for courtroom presentations or meetings. Assist lawyers with case preparation tasks such as interviewing witnesses, conducting document discovery, and preparing legal arguments (may vary depending on the firm). Manage and maintain client files electronically and physically.
