A Cost Accounting Manager is a vital leader responsible for overseeing an organization's cost accounting functions, ensuring accurate product or service costing, inventory valuation, and profitability analysis. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining robust cost accounting systems, processes, and controls. This position demands strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proven ability to lead and mentor an accounting team. Typically, 5-8 years of progressive experience in cost accounting or a related manufacturing/operational accounting role, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or management capacity, is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is essential, and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is highly preferred. A thorough understanding of Canadian manufacturing practices and relevant accounting standards is paramount.

Typical cost accounting manager duties:

Oversee all cost accounting operations, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis.Develop, implement, and maintain cost accounting systems and processes.Analyze production costs, overheads, and inventory levels to identify cost-saving opportunities.Prepare detailed cost reports and provide insights on profitability by product, service, or project.Lead the cost accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance management.Collaborate with operations, production, and supply chain teams to improve cost efficiency and accuracy.Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) related to inventory and cost of goods sold.Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
