A Budget Analyst is responsible for supporting an organization's financial planning by developing, managing, and analyzing budgets. This role involves collaborating with various departments to collect financial data, prepare budget forecasts, and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic goals. The Budget Analyst identifies trends, analyzes variances, and provides key insights to management to optimize resource allocation and improve financial performance. Candidates need strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency in financial modeling and spreadsheet software. Typically, 3-5 years of progressive experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or accounting is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is essential, with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or other relevant certification (e.g., CFA) often preferred. A solid understanding of Canadian financial regulations and economic drivers impacting budgeting is key.

Typical budget analyst duties:

Assist in the development, preparation, and implementation of annual operating and capital budgets.Collect and analyze financial data from various departments, identifying trends and forecasting future needs.Monitor budget performance against actual expenditures, identifying and explaining variances.Prepare comprehensive budget reports, presentations, and financial models for management review.Collaborate with department heads to understand their budgetary needs and ensure accuracy.Recommend budget adjustments and cost-saving measures to optimize financial resources.Support the strategic planning process by providing accurate financial projections and analyses.Ensure budget processes and reporting comply with internal policies and Canadian financial guidelines.
