Your opportunityThis is a newly created Financial Controller role with a highly successful business turning over close to $400m, growing at around 20% year on year, and with plenty more planned. This position puts you at the centre of their growth plans, and you'll see this role evolve in real-time. You'll be joining an approachable and supportive leadership team that places a genuine emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. This is a business where how you work with people matters just as much as what you know technically.You'll also manage a team of 7 that know what they're doing and are highly capable. You certainly don't need to make sweeping changes, and the business would prefer that you settle into your position and gradually make improvements as and where required. What you'll do:You will take ownership of the financial control environment and while you'll have responsibility for the monthly numbers, financial reporting, cash flow and compliance, a key part of the role will be building the internal controls framework, strengthening risk management and protecting the business as it becomes larger and more complex.<ul><li>Financial reporting: Take ownership of the monthly accounts and financial close, delivering accurate, reliable numbers within the current day-three close timetable.</li><li>Internal controls and risk: Develop and implement an internal controls framework across finance and the wider business, protecting assets and ensuring the right processes are in place as the business grows.</li><li>Business continuity: Develop a Business Continuity Plan and help strengthen the business's approach to operational risk and resilience.</li><li>Compliance and governance: Manage the relationship with the ATO, oversee BAS and statutory obligations, and drive compliance across areas including ESG and Modern Slavery.</li><li>Cash flow and treasury: Oversee cash flow management and forecasting, building on the existing 15-month rolling forecast and improving short-term cash flow visibility as required.</li><li>Systems: Oversee the systems used across finance, ensuring they continue to support the business effectively.</li><li>Audit: Manage the external audit process and ensure the business is well prepared.</li><li>Leadership: Lead and develop the accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, working closely with the wider finance team and senior leadership.</li></ul>What you'll bring:Experience building internal controls frameworks is important here. If you've done this in an inventory-heavy business, even better.You'll be a technically strong finance professional who understands that good financial control is about more than producing a set of accounts.You'll be humble, approachable and commercially minded. This isn't about coming in and imposing controls in isolation; it's about working with people across the business to build processes that work and protect the organisation as it grows.<ul><li>CA / CPA qualified, with a strong technical accounting background and external audit grounding.</li><li>Proven experience developing and implementing internal controls frameworks, ideally in a business with significant inventory and operational complexity.</li><li>A solid understanding of financial risk, governance, compliance and business continuity.</li><li>Experience overseeing financial reporting, month-end close, cash flow and audit.</li><li>Strong systems knowledge and the ability to identify where processes and controls can be improved.</li><li>A hands-on, proactive approach. Your opportunity:You'll be joining an Australian business with an expanding finance function at a pivotal point of their growth on a global basis. You'll work closely with an approachable CFO who is known for being calm, patient and approachable. The finance team is continuing to grow, and the environment is collaborative and down-to-earth, without unnecessary hierarchy. You'll take ownership of day-to-day finance activities while getting the opportunity to broaden your skills across month-end, reporting and other areas of accounting.The initial focus will be AP, AR and reconciliations, so you'll need a solid grounding in these areas. Over time, there's scope to get involved in BAS, GST, payroll-related tasks and broader accounting responsibilities as you develop. The role is office-based, Monday to Friday, generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with some flexibility around start and finish times.What you'll be doing:It's a varied, hands-on position where you'll need to be comfortable managing the day-to-day workload while also being willing to pitch in and help the wider team.<ul><li>Processing around 30-40 supplier invoices a day and managing accounts payable.</li><li>Assisting with supplier payment runs, supplier enquiries and account reconciliations.</li><li>Supporting accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, payment allocations and following up outstanding payments.</li><li>Completing daily bank reconciliations and reconciling three company credit cards.</li><li>Assisting with cash flow monitoring and customer account setups.</li><li>Supporting month-end, including journals, accruals, general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.</li><li>Assisting with financial reporting and providing support across the finance team when needed.</li><li>Developing your skills in areas such as BAS, GST and payroll as training is provided.</li></ul>Who you are:Ideally, you'll have a minimum of 4 years' experience in a Finance Officer or Accounts Officer role, with exposure to both AP and AR.You don't need to know everything from day one.
