Your opportunity:You'll be joining a successful, privately owned group with ambitious expansion plans and a leadership team focused on taking the business to its next stage of growth.This is a newly created position reporting directly to the CEO. You'll be the first in-house finance appointment, giving you the opportunity to shape how finance operates, influence business strategy and play a significant role in the group's continued expansion.You're not following in anyone's footsteps and you'll have the full support of the leadership to drive the function. It's not a traditional Financial Controller role where your time is dominated by month-end, reconciliations and statutory reporting. Think approximately 70% commercial and operational finance, with 30% financial control and governance.You will have significant influence over commercial performance and future growth.What you'll be doing:A significant part of your role will be working alongside Area Managers and operational leaders across multiple locations (in person visits and online), helping them understand the financial performance of their businesses, and identify opportunities to improve it.You'll have the opportunity to:<ul><li>Influence business strategy: Work directly with the CEO and leadership team, providing financial insight to support strategic decisions, growth plans and future expansion.</li><li>Drive commercial performance: Work with operational leaders to understand site-level profitability, identify opportunities and translate financial information into practical actions.</li><li>Improve business reporting: Develop meaningful management reporting, dashboards and KPIs that give the leadership team a clearer picture of business performance.</li><li>Introduce a Balanced Scorecard: Establish a broader view of performance, connecting financial results with operational measures and the key drivers of business success.</li><li>Own budgeting and forecasting: Build and improve forecasting processes, providing greater visibility of future performance and supporting better commercial decisions.</li><li>Influence growth: Provide financial modelling, analysis and commercial advice to support the group's expansion plans and ongoing investment decisions.</li></ul>You'll also take ownership of the financial control environment. The accounting function is currently supported by an outsourced provider, and you'll assess which activities are best retained externally and which should progressively move in-house.You'll be responsible for reviewing and challenging monthly results, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, maintaining appropriate controls and overseeing statutory and compliance requirements.Who you are:You'll understand how a growing business operates. You won't need a large finance team or an established corporate structure around you to make things happen. Your opportunityThis is a newly created Financial Controller role with a highly successful business turning over close to $400m, growing at around 20% year on year, and with plenty more planned. This position puts you at the centre of their growth plans, and you'll see this role evolve in real-time. You'll be joining an approachable and supportive leadership team that places a genuine emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. This is a business where how you work with people matters just as much as what you know technically.You'll also manage a team of 7 that know what they're doing and are highly capable. You certainly don't need to make sweeping changes, and the business would prefer that you settle into your position and gradually make improvements as and where required. What you'll do:You will take ownership of the financial control environment and while you'll have responsibility for the monthly numbers, financial reporting, cash flow and compliance, a key part of the role will be building the internal controls framework, strengthening risk management and protecting the business as it becomes larger and more complex.<ul><li>Financial reporting: Take ownership of the monthly accounts and financial close, delivering accurate, reliable numbers within the current day-three close timetable.</li><li>Internal controls and risk: Develop and implement an internal controls framework across finance and the wider business, protecting assets and ensuring the right processes are in place as the business grows.</li><li>Business continuity: Develop a Business Continuity Plan and help strengthen the business's approach to operational risk and resilience.</li><li>Compliance and governance: Manage the relationship with the ATO, oversee BAS and statutory obligations, and drive compliance across areas including ESG and Modern Slavery.</li><li>Cash flow and treasury: Oversee cash flow management and forecasting, building on the existing 15-month rolling forecast and improving short-term cash flow visibility as required.</li><li>Systems: Oversee the systems used across finance, ensuring they continue to support the business effectively.</li><li>Audit: Manage the external audit process and ensure the business is well prepared.</li><li>Leadership: Lead and develop the accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, working closely with the wider finance team and senior leadership.</li></ul>What you'll bring:Experience building internal controls frameworks is important here. If you've done this in an inventory-heavy business, even better.You'll be a technically strong finance professional who understands that good financial control is about more than producing a set of accounts.You'll be humble, approachable and commercially minded. This isn't about coming in and imposing controls in isolation; it's about working with people across the business to build processes that work and protect the organisation as it grows.<ul><li>CA / CPA qualified, with a strong technical accounting background and external audit grounding.</li><li>Proven experience developing and implementing internal controls frameworks, ideally in a business with significant inventory and operational complexity.</li><li>A solid understanding of financial risk, governance, compliance and business continuity.</li><li>Experience overseeing financial reporting, month-end close, cash flow and audit.</li><li>Strong systems knowledge and the ability to identify where processes and controls can be improved.</li><li>A hands-on, proactive approach.
