You will work closely with business leaders to navigate complex legal issues, manage risk and deliver practical solutions that support the organisation's commercial objectives.This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to work across a diverse range of legal matters while influencing business decisions and contributing to the ongoing development of the legal function.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide commercially focused legal advice across corporate, commercial, regulatory, privacy, consumer and operational matters.</li><li>Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including technology, procurement, outsourcing, confidentiality and strategic arrangements.</li><li>Support complex legal initiatives and strategic projects, identifying legal risks and providing practical solutions.</li><li>Advise senior stakeholders on legal and regulatory obligations, emerging risks, governance matters and legislative change.</li><li>Oversee litigation, disputes, investigations and external legal providers, including legal expenditure and service delivery.</li><li>Contribute to legal risk management, governance frameworks, policies, training and continuous improvement across the organisation.</li></ul>Skills, Experience and Qualifications<ul><li>Australian-admitted solicitor with 5+ years' post-admission experience gained in private practice, in-house or a highly regulated environment.</li><li>Strong corporate and commercial legal experience, with exposure to regulatory, privacy, consumer or governance matters.</li><li>Must have financial services experience.</li><li>Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and stakeholders on complex legal, commercial and regulatory matters.</li><li>Strong commercial acumen, judgement and ability to balance legal and regulatory risk with business objectives.</li><li>Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice.</li></ul>You must have full working rights in Australia in order to apply for this role. The Role Reporting directly into senior management, the appointed candidate will take on a broad and commercially focused in-house legal role covering generalist legal, regulatory and governance matters across the business. They will act as a trusted legal adviser to the CEO, Board and wider management team and will provide practical advice across commercial contracts, funds management, lending and property investment activities. Using sound judgement they will work autonomously and as a business enabler, to provide practical advice to a responsive audience. Your Profile You will be an experienced Australian lawyer with a current practising certificate and ideally circa 5 or more years' post-admission experience, gained within financial services, funds management, lending, property or another regulated or allied environment. In addition, you will bring:<ul><li>Strong commercial legal experience, including contract drafting and negotiation</li><li>An understanding of AFSL and financial services regulatory obligations</li><li>Exposure to funds management, managed investment schemes or investment/lending structures</li><li>Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice</li><li>Experience working with senior executives, Boards and external advisers</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>The confidence to operate autonomously within a boutique environment</li></ul> In addition to the above, some experience across compliance or company secretarial matters would be advantageous but is not essential.
