<p><strong>Technical Lead - Software Development</strong></p><p><strong>$155,000 - $185,000 + Super | Newstead | Hybrid </strong></p><p>We're working with a Brisbane-based technology business that's continuing to invest in its engineering capability and is now looking to appoint a Technical Lead - Software Development.</p><p>This is a technical-first leadership role. The focus is on engineering quality, architecture, and delivery rather than formal people management. You'll lead a small team of around five developers, remain hands-on with development, and set the technical standard across the platform.</p><p>You'll work closely with the CTO, partner day-to-day with the Business Analyst, and collaborate with the wider product and technology team to turn ideas into well-designed, scalable solutions.</p><p><strong>What you'll be doing:</strong></p><ul><li>Setting and owning technical standards across the development team</li><li>Remaining hands-on across backend and frontend development</li><li>Designing and building backend services using Python / Django</li><li>Developing modern frontend functionality using React and TypeScript</li><li>Working with the CTO on technical direction, architecture, and longer-term system design</li><li>Partnering with the Business Analyst in whiteboarding and planning sessions to translate business needs into build-ready technical work</li><li>Collaborating with the wider team to deliver features and improvements end-to-end</li><li>Driving code quality through reviews, guidance, and technical mentorship</li><li>Identifying technical debt and leading pragmatic improvements</li><li>Taking ownership of DevOps responsibilities, including environments, deployments, and CI/CD</li><li>Actively using and championing AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Copilot)</li></ul><p><strong>The Environment</strong></p><ul><li>Small, capable development team with strong individual contributors</li><li>Flat structure and direct access to decision-makers</li><li>Mix of BAU and project work (approximately 50/50)</li><li>Engineering-led culture focused on technical quality and ownership</li><li>Well suited to candidates from smaller teams, consultancies, or dev studios</li></ul><p><strong>What we're looking for:</strong></p><ul><li>Strong technical background with the ability to guide others technically</li><li>Advanced frontend experience with React (or similar modern frameworks)</li><li>Backend experience with Python/Django or Ruby on Rails</li><li>Solid hands-on understanding of DevOps practices (AWS, CI/CD, deployments; Kubernetes exposure beneficial)</li><li>Comfortable owning systems end-to-end, from design through to production</li><li>Confident communicator who enjoys technical problem-solving and collaboration</li><li>Curious, pragmatic, and quality-driven mindset</li></ul><p><strong>Salary:</strong></p><ul><li>$155k - $185k + Super, depending on experience and technical leadership scope</li></ul><p><strong>Location &amp; working style:</strong></p><ul><li>Newstead, Brisbane</li><li>Hybrid working model - 3 days per week in the office</li></ul><p><em>By clicking 'apply', you give your express consent that Robert Half may use your personal information to process your job application and to contact you from time to time for future employment opportunities.
