The Senior Management Accountant delivers strategic financial insights through detailed analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support decision-making at the executive level. This role ensures robust financial planning, drives performance reporting, and maintains compliance with New Zealand accounting standards and IRD obligations.

Senior Management Accountant duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Senior Management Accountant include:

Leading the budgeting and forecasting cycles across business units

Preparing monthly management reports with analysis of variances and financial trends

Partnering with senior stakeholders across New Zealand to provide financial guidance

Developing and maintaining financial models to support strategic planning

Monitoring cost drivers and identifying opportunities for efficiency and margin improvement

Managing month-end close activities and ensuring accuracy of financial data

Ensuring compliance with NZ IFRS and IRD requirements including GST, FBT, and PAYE

Supporting internal controls, governance frameworks, and audit readiness

Mentoring junior finance team members and contributing to capability development

Driving continuous improvement of management reporting and planning processes

Senior Management Accountant job qualifications and requirements

A degree in accounting or finance and full membership with CA ANZ or CPA Australia is required.

Requirements include:

5+ years’ experience in management accounting or commercial finance roles

Proven ability to deliver insights from complex financial data

Strong proficiency with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g. SAP, Xero, MYOB) and advanced Excel modelling

In-depth knowledge of NZ IFRS, budgeting processes, and IRD compliance

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Experience influencing senior decision-makers with evidence-based recommendations
