The Accounts Payable Manager oversees the end-to-end accounts payable function, ensuring accurate processing, timely payments, and compliance with IRD obligations. This leadership role manages a team of accounts payable officers and supports the integrity of financial operations across the business.

Accounts Payable Manager duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of an Accounts Payable Manager include:

Leading and mentoring the accounts payable team to ensure high performance and accuracy

Overseeing invoice processing, payment runs, and supplier reconciliations in line with company policies

Ensuring GST is correctly coded and reported in compliance with IRD requirements

Managing vendor relationships and resolving escalated payment issues

Reviewing and improving accounts payable processes to enhance efficiency and controls

Collaborating with procurement and finance teams across New Zealand to align payment practices

Supporting month-end close activities, including accruals, reporting, and audit readiness

Ensuring accurate maintenance of supplier master data and payment terms

Monitoring KPIs and preparing reports on accounts payable performance

Managing system enhancements and upgrades within platforms such as SAP, Xero, or MYOB

Accounts Payable Manager job qualifications and requirements

A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or business is preferred. Candidates should have 5+ years’ experience in accounts payable, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.

Requirements include:

Demonstrated experience leading an accounts payable function in a medium to large organisation

Experience managing and developing AP teams to achieve performance targets

Strong understanding of GST processing and IRD reporting obligations

Proficiency in financial systems such as SAP, Xero, or MYOB

Proven ability to implement process improvements and internal controls

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Strong organisational and analytical abilities to manage deadlines, reporting requirements, and high-volume transactions
