The Accounts Assistant supports the finance team by handling day-to-day transactional accounting tasks and ensuring timely and accurate financial processing. This role is essential for maintaining accurate records across accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger functions.

Accounts Assistant duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of an Accounts Assistant include:Processing supplier invoices and preparing payment batches in line with company policiesReconciling bank statements and resolving discrepanciesManaging accounts receivable, including debtor follow-ups and cash allocationsAssisting with month-end journal entries and ledger reconciliationsMaintaining accurate records to support audit readiness and compliancePreparing GST returns and supporting PAYE and FBT calculations in accordance with IRD requirementsSupporting credit card reconciliations and employee expense processingLiaising with New Zealand-based suppliers and internal teams to resolve queriesEnsuring data accuracy across financial systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB, SAP)Assisting with ad hoc reporting and continuous process improvements

Accounts Assistant job qualifications and requirements

A diploma or degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have 1–3 years’ experience in a similar finance support role.Requirements include:Demonstrated experience in accounts payable and receivableStrong attention to detail and accuracy in reconciliations and processingProficiency with accounting systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB, SAP) and Microsoft ExcelWorking knowledge of IRD obligations, including GST, PAYE, and FBTAbility to meet deadlines and manage high-volume processingStrong communication skills for liaising across New Zealand-based stakeholdersA proactive and organised approach to problem-solving
