It offers the opportunity to join an entrepreneurial environment with an established operation, where finance plays an important role in supporting business performance and future growth.This is a key appointment within a close-knit team, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, work closely with senior leadership and make a tangible contribution to the continued development of the business.<h3>The role</h3>Reporting to the senior finance leadership team, the Financial Controller will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and robust processes.The role offers a varied blend of technical accounting, team leadership and commercial business partnering. You will lead a small finance team, remaining hands-on with the detail while providing the financial insight needed to support business performance and decision-making.This would suit someone who enjoys working in a dynamic SME environment, where initiative, adaptability and a pragmatic approach are valued.<h3>Key responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Own the month-end close process, delivering accurate and timely management accounts.</li><li>Oversee the general ledger, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.</li><li>Maintain robust financial controls, accounting policies and reporting procedures.</li><li>Lead, support and develop a small finance team, including two Assistant Accountants.</li><li>Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling.</li><li>Provide commercial analysis and insight to support business planning and strategic decisions.</li><li>Partner with senior stakeholders, communicating financial performance clearly and managing expectations.</li><li>Monitor results against budgets and forecasts, identifying risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.</li><li>Oversee statutory reporting, audit requirements and compliance with relevant accounting standards.</li><li>Review and improve finance systems, processes and reporting to support the business as it grows.</li><li>Work closely with the leadership team to ensure finance supports operational performance and future growth.</li></ul><h3>About you</h3>You will be a technically strong and commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting involved in the detail.You will ideally have:<ul><li>A recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with at least two years' post-qualification experience.</li><li>Strong technical accounting skills and experience across financial control and reporting.</li><li>A solid grounding in month-end, balance sheet management and financial controls.</li><li>Experience of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling.</li><li>The ability to lead and develop a small team while remaining hands-on.</li><li>Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems and financial data.</li><li>Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.</li><li>A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to challenge constructively and improve processes.</li></ul>Experience in an SME, owner-managed or entrepreneurial business would be advantageous. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Accounts Payable Clerk to join a busy and fast-paced finance team on a 6-month contract.This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned AP professional who is comfortable working with high volumes of invoices, multiple locations and competing priorities.
