The VP of Finance is a senior executive responsible for the strategic oversight and operational excellence of an organization's financial health. This pivotal leadership role drives the execution of financial strategy, leads financial planning and analysis, manages treasury functions, and ensures robust risk management and internal controls. The VP Finance provides expert guidance to the finance team, guarantees accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintains rigorous compliance with all applicable regulations. Candidates must possess exceptional analytical skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in comprehensive financial management. Typically, 10-15 years of progressive experience in finance, with a significant portion in a senior management or director-level capacity, is required. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is essential, and an MBA is often preferred. Deep expertise in Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS), tax legislation, and the Canadian regulatory environment is paramount.

Typical VP of finance duties:

Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.Oversee all financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and strict adherence to Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS).Manage treasury functions, including cash flow, working capital, and foreign exchange exposure.Implement and monitor comprehensive internal controls and risk management frameworks to safeguard company assets.Provide strategic financial analysis and insights to support executive decision-making and business growth initiatives.Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.Ensure full compliance with all Canadian tax laws and relevant financial regulations.Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and other financial partners.
