UX Director Job Description

A UX Director is a senior executive leader responsible for defining and driving the user experience vision and strategy across an entire organization. This role focuses on building and leading a high-performing UX team, establishing best practices, and ensuring that all digital products and services are user-centric, accessible, and aligned with business goals. The UX Director acts as a key advocate for the user, influencing product roadmaps and fostering a culture of design excellence. Candidates must possess extensive experience in UX design, research, and strategy, with a proven track record of managing and mentoring teams. Typically, 10-15 years of experience in the UX field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, is expected. A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field such as Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or Psychology is preferred. Experience leading UX initiatives within the unique context of the Canadian market and its diverse user demographics is a significant asset.

Typical UX director duties:

Define and champion the long-term UX vision and strategy, ensuring it is aligned with company objectives.Lead and grow a team of UX designers, researchers, and writers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management.Oversee the entire user experience lifecycle, from initial research and discovery to design, testing, and implementation.Establish and enforce UX standards, methodologies, and best practices across the organization.Collaborate with executive leadership, product management, engineering, and marketing to integrate user-centric design into all aspects of the product development process.Manage UX budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines.Act as a thought leader and subject matter expert on UX design, accessibility, and emerging technologies.
