Accountant Job Description

An Accountant is a detail-oriented professional responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting various accounting functions within an organization. This role involves processing transactions, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end close procedures, and preparing financial reports. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Typically, 0-2 years of experience in accounting or a related field is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is essential, and candidates actively pursuing a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation are often preferred. A foundational understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and tax principles is key.

Typical accountant duties:

Process and record financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.Perform regular bank and general ledger account reconciliations.Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.Prepare various financial reports and statements for internal use.Ensure adherence to company accounting policies and internal controls.Support the audit process by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.Assist with tax calculations and filings, ensuring compliance with Canadian regulations.
