Typical Credit Risk Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in finance, economics, or a related discipline is essential, with relevant certifications such as FRM or CFA highly regarded. Strong experience in credit risk management within financial services is required, ideally in a leadership capacity.Extensive experience in credit risk assessment, underwriting, and portfolio managementStrong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including APRA Prudential Standards (e.g. CPS 220) and Basel IIIProficiency in financial analysis, credit modelling, and stress testingFamiliarity with credit risk systems and rating methodologies (e.g. Moody’s, S&P, internal scorecards)Experience in developing and implementing credit risk policies and frameworksStrong understanding of risk appetite, limits, and exposure managementExcellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skillsExperience working with cross-functional teams including credit, finance, compliance, and productAbility to interpret and apply macroeconomic trends to credit strategy and risk managementProficiency in data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, SAS, or Python) is highly regarded
