The Credit Risk Analyst plays a key role in evaluating, monitoring, and managing credit risk across portfolios, supporting data-driven decision-making and regulatory compliance. This position contributes to the development of credit risk strategies and works closely with stakeholders to maintain the integrity of credit assessment processes.

Key responsibilities of a Credit Risk Analyst in the financial services sector include:

Conducting in-depth credit analysis of counterparties, portfolios, and products

Developing and enhancing credit risk models and scorecards

Monitoring credit exposures and identifying emerging risk trends

Preparing reports for senior management and regulatory submissions

Supporting the implementation of credit risk frameworks and policies

Validating and refining risk rating methodologies

Performing stress testing and scenario analyses

Collaborating with finance, compliance, and business units on risk issues

Ensuring adherence to APRA, Basel III, and internal governance standards

Typical Credit Risk Analyst job qualifications and requirements

A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related discipline is essential, and postgraduate qualifications or certifications (e.g. CFA, FRM) are highly regarded. Prior experience in credit risk analysis within financial services is required, with strong quantitative and regulatory knowledge.

4+ years’ experience in credit risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, or related risk functions

Strong financial modelling, credit assessment, and data analysis skills

Proficiency in risk analytics tools and programming languages (e.g. SAS, SQL, Python, Excel)

In-depth understanding of credit risk concepts, provisioning, and regulatory frameworks including APRA standards and Basel III/IV

Experience in developing, validating, or monitoring credit scorecards and risk rating models

Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills in analysing risk exposure and trends

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to stakeholders

Familiarity with portfolio stress testing, scenario analysis, and concentration risk metrics

Knowledge of reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) is advantageous

Ability to work cross-functionally with finance, lending, compliance, and technology teams
