Key responsibilities of a Credit Risk Analyst in the financial services sector include:Conducting in-depth credit analysis of counterparties, portfolios, and productsDeveloping and enhancing credit risk models and scorecardsMonitoring credit exposures and identifying emerging risk trendsPreparing reports for senior management and regulatory submissionsSupporting the implementation of credit risk frameworks and policiesValidating and refining risk rating methodologiesPerforming stress testing and scenario analysesCollaborating with finance, compliance, and business units on risk issuesEnsuring adherence to APRA, Basel III, and internal governance standards

Typical Credit Risk Analyst job qualifications and requirements

A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related discipline is essential, and postgraduate qualifications or certifications (e.g. CFA, FRM) are highly regarded. Prior experience in credit risk analysis within financial services is required, with strong quantitative and regulatory knowledge.4+ years’ experience in credit risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, or related risk functionsStrong financial modelling, credit assessment, and data analysis skillsProficiency in risk analytics tools and programming languages (e.g. SAS, SQL, Python, Excel)In-depth understanding of credit risk concepts, provisioning, and regulatory frameworks including APRA standards and Basel III/IVExperience in developing, validating, or monitoring credit scorecards and risk rating modelsStrong attention to detail and critical thinking skills in analysing risk exposure and trendsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to stakeholdersFamiliarity with portfolio stress testing, scenario analysis, and concentration risk metricsKnowledge of reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) is advantageousAbility to work cross-functionally with finance, lending, compliance, and technology teams
