Senior Project Manager duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Senior Project Manager include:

Leading the planning, execution, and delivery of complex IT and digital transformation projects

Defining project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource plans across multiple workstreams

Managing risks, issues, and dependencies, and ensuring proactive resolution

Coordinating internal teams, external vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to meet delivery milestones

Ensuring compliance with the NZ Privacy Act, ISO 27001, and internal governance frameworks

Preparing project reports, business cases, and executive-level updates

Embedding change management, training, and user adoption plans into project execution

Driving continuous improvement in project delivery practices and outcomes

Senior Project Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in project management, information technology, or a related field is required. Certifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, or Agile/Scrum Master are essential.

Requirements include:

7+ years’ experience managing large-scale or complex technology projects

Demonstrated success delivering projects involving cloud, infrastructure, application development, or digital services

Strong understanding of New Zealand-specific data privacy, compliance, and cybersecurity standards

Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendor relationships

Excellent communication, risk management, and strategic planning skills

Ability to operate at both executive and operational levels within project environments
