Chief Technology Officer Job Description

Chief Technology Officers in Canada require in-depth knowledge of all aspects of a firm’s data technology infrastructure. Known for their technical expertise and tactical managerial skills, chief technology officers evaluate new technology and decide how it can benefit their organization and its clients. They oversee the design of — and make recommendations to executive management regarding — technology solutions to uphold the policies and instruction provided by the chief information officer. Chief Technology Officers collaborate with various departments to execute the company’s technology vision. Candidates for this role typically have a degree in computer science (some firms prefer candidates with an MBA) or a related field and at least 10 years of experience in IT management and strategy. Candidates need excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to plan and complete projects within time and budget constraints.

Typical chief technology officer duties:

Daily oversight, planning, design, and delivery of technology initiatives.Implementing technology and cybersecurity policies and procedures.Developing network and systems architectures for presentation to senior management.Collaborating with the Chief Information Officer and other departments to develop strategies and budgets and ensure optimal performance of networks and systems operations.Assisting with disaster recovery planning, implementation, and execution.
