Typical Tax Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in accounting, finance, or commerce is essential, with CA, CPA, or CTA certification preferred. Substantial experience in corporate tax roles is required.Key skills and attributes for success in this role include:Extensive experience in Australian corporate tax compliance and advisoryIn-depth knowledge of Australian and international tax legislation, including Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 & 1997; Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act 1986; A New Tax System (GST) Act 1999)Strong understanding of tax effect accounting and reporting under IFRS and AASB 112Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex tax scenariosExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise senior leadershipProficiency in tax software and ERP systems, such as SAP, Oracle, and OneSource or CCH iFirmExperience in managing ATO audits, reviews, or correspondenceUnderstanding of transfer pricing and intercompany transaction frameworksCapability to lead and mentor junior tax team membersUp-to-date knowledge of tax reforms, ATO rulings, and guidance
