The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for managing complex tax compliance, reporting, and advisory functions to support the organisation’s fiscal responsibilities. This role works closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure timely and accurate tax filings, while identifying opportunities for efficiency and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities of a Senior Tax Accountant in the accounting and finance sector include:Preparing and reviewing corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapersEnsuring compliance with Australian tax laws, regulations, and reporting deadlines (e.g. Income Tax Assessment Acts, GST Act)Managing indirect tax obligations, including GST, FBT, and PAYGAssisting with tax effect accounting and preparing tax disclosures for financial statements under IFRS and AASB 112Supporting internal and external audits through accurate and timely tax documentationMonitoring legislative and regulatory changes, and assessing potential business impactsProviding tax advice on business transactions, restructures, and intercompany arrangementsCollaborating with finance teams to ensure data accuracy and alignment across tax processesIdentifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and tax optimisation

Typical Senior Tax Accountant job qualifications and requirements

A degree in accounting, finance, or commerce is essential, with CA, CPA, or CTA accreditation strongly preferred.
