Key responsibilities of a Technical Lead – Software Engineering include:

Leading software design, architecture, and development for complex applications and systems

Defining and enforcing coding standards, development methodologies, and DevOps practices

Collaborating with product owners, designers, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs

Mentoring developers and supporting continuous improvement in engineering capability

Overseeing code reviews, performance tuning, and technical quality assurance

Ensuring secure development practices and compliance with the NZ Privacy Act and ISO 27001

Supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment frameworks

Contributing to system documentation, technical specifications, and operational readiness

Technical Lead – Software Engineering job qualifications and requirements

A degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.

Requirements include:

6+ years’ experience in software development, including leadership of technical teams

Expertise in modern development frameworks and languages (e.g. .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java)

Proven experience in designing and implementing enterprise-grade solutions

Strong understanding of software architecture, microservices, and integration patterns

Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS), DevOps toolchains, and agile delivery

Deep knowledge of New Zealand privacy and data security standards in software systems

Excellent leadership, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
