The Role We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (Contract) for an initial 6 month contract. This role plays a critical part in a major modernisation initiative, with a primary focus on migrating on premises SQL Server 2016 environments to SQL Server 2025, while ensuring stability, performance, and data integrity across the database estate. You will work closely with Infrastructure, Application Development, Information Security and external partners to deliver successful migrations and maintain reliable, secure, and high performing SQL Server platforms. In addition to migration delivery, you will provide hands on DBA support across business critical systems, contributing to operational resilience and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include:<ul><li>Leading and delivering SQL Server version upgrades and migration activities</li><li>Managing and supporting on premises SQL Server environments to meet availability and performance targets</li><li>Installing, configuring, upgrading, and patching SQL Server instances with minimal business disruption</li><li>Monitoring, tuning, and optimising database performance and capacity</li><li>Implementing and validating backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions</li><li>Supporting database related incidents, service requests, and change activities</li><li>Ensuring database security, access controls, and compliance requirements are met</li><li>Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation and knowledge artefacts</li></ul>Skills and Experience To be successful in this contract role, you will bring strong hands on SQL Server administration expertise and have a proven track record of delivering complex migrations within enterprise environments.
