Key responsibilities of a Commercial Manager include:Leading budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning processes across business unitsProviding strategic commercial analysis to support investment decisions, pricing, and cost managementDeveloping financial models and business cases to evaluate new initiatives and capital projectsDriving performance reporting and variance analysis to support executive decision-makingPartnering with cross-functional teams to improve commercial outcomes and operational efficiencyOverseeing the preparation of management reports, dashboards, and board packsEnsuring financial recommendations are aligned with NZ IFRS standards and IRD obligationsMonitoring market conditions and competitor activity to inform strategic planningLeading and mentoring a team of analysts to deliver high-quality commercial support

Commercial Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in finance, accounting, or economics is required. CA ANZ or CPA Australia qualification is essential.Requirements include:7+ years’ experience in commercial finance, business analysis, or strategic planning rolesDemonstrated leadership in financial modelling, business case development, and decision supportAdvanced Excel and financial systems proficiency (e.g. SAP, Power BI, TM1)Strong understanding of NZ IFRS reporting standards and IRD compliance, including GST and FBTProven ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders across New Zealand-based operationsExcellent analytical, communication, and presentation skillsTrack record of delivering commercial insights that drive measurable business outcomes
