Commercial Analyst duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Commercial Analyst include:Developing and maintaining financial models to assess profitability, pricing strategies, and business casesAnalysing revenue, margin, and cost drivers to identify commercial opportunities and risksPartnering with stakeholders across New Zealand-based teams to support forecasting and budgeting cyclesProviding commercial input into tenders, contracts, and investment proposalsPreparing performance dashboards, variance analyses, and executive reporting packsConducting market, competitor, and customer analysis to inform strategic planningSupporting decision-making through scenario modelling and sensitivity analysisEnsuring reporting outputs comply with NZ IFRS and IRD requirements where relevantContributing to continuous improvement of analytical tools, reporting processes, and business insights

Commercial Analyst job qualifications and requirements

A degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is required. CA ANZ or CPA Australia qualification (or working towards) is advantageous.Requirements include:3+ years’ experience in commercial, financial, or business analysis rolesStrong financial modelling and Excel skills, including scenario and sensitivity analysisProven ability to interpret complex data and present clear, actionable insightsProficiency in business intelligence and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, SAP)Solid understanding of NZ IFRS reporting standards and IRD compliance obligationsStrong stakeholder engagement skills across finance and non-finance teamsCommercial acumen and a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision support
