Top tips to spot a potential job scam

While recruitment scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, staying informed can help keep you protected. We have outlined our top tips and Robert Half’s protocols to help you identify a potential scam during your job search. Robert Half will never ask you to pay an "administration fee," "security fee," "accreditation fee," or purchase gift cards. We will never ask you to transfer cash or provide credit card information to secure a role. We do not request government ID numbers, banking details, or sensitive info via instant messaging apps like WhatsApp, LINE, or Facebook Messenger or Telegram. We do not send or request money through mobile payment apps or digital wallet platforms, such as LINE, SUICA, GCash, Skrill, Shopify, or Google Pay, and we will never make or request payments via cryptocurrency. Our consultants only use official work emails: [firstname].[lastname]@roberthalf.co.jp. Be wary of communications from generic providers like Gmail, Hotmail, or Outlook, or slight misspellings of our domain. If you are instantly offered an unusually high salary or a "guaranteed" job without a formal interview process, it is likely a scam. If the job description is poorly written, lacks specific responsibilities, or contains significant spelling and grammar errors, this may be a scammer. You are pressured to click links or download files before you have even applied for a position. Robert Half only hires for roles in countries where we are authorized to operate. Please click on the drop-down menu below to see the list of countries Robert Half operates in. You are asked for unnecessary personal data (like your Tax File Number or copies of your Passport) before even speaking to a consultant or submitting an application through our official website. Check the website: Clues to watch for Missing Information – If a site claiming to be Robert Half has no “About us” page, no contact details, vague company background, or limited pages treat it as suspicious. URL Check – Look for correct spelling and standard domain formats (e.g., roberthalf.com). Avoid sites with unusual endings (.info, .biz), extra hyphens, or slight misspellings.
