In the financial services sector, this role ensures that treasury operations support both regulatory compliance and the business’s strategic financial objectives.

Treasury Accountant duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a typical Treasury Accountant include:Managing daily cash flow and forecasting short- and long-term liquidity positionsMonitoring and reconciling bank accounts, intercompany loans, and treasury transactionsSupporting debt management, investment activities, and interest rate hedging strategiesPreparing and analysing treasury reports, including cash position summaries, covenant reporting, and funding requirementsEnsuring accurate and timely execution of payments, including foreign exchange and interbank transfersMaintaining banking relationships and supporting account administrationAssisting with treasury accounting entries, month-end close processes, and compliance with relevant accounting standardsSupporting treasury audits and regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., APRA or ASIC as applicable)Identifying process improvements and assisting in the implementation of treasury systems or automation initiativesAssisting with the preparation of cash flow forecasts aligned with local tax, BAS, and GST payment cyclesAssisting with the preparation of cash flow forecasts aligned with local tax, BAS, and GST payment cyclesMonitoring counterparty credit exposure in line with internal policies and APRA prudential standards (if applicable)This role is ideal for finance professionals with strong attention to detail, a solid grasp of financial instruments, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and regulated financial services environment.

Typical Treasury Accountant job qualifications and requirements

A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is essential, along with prior experience in treasury, cash management, or financial accounting within the financial services sector. CPA or CA qualifications are highly regarded.Key skills and attributes for success in this role include:Strong understanding of cash flow, liquidity management, and treasury operationsExperience with treasury management systems and banking platformsSolid knowledge of financial instruments, FX, and interest rate riskKnowledge of Australian tax, regulatory, and accounting frameworks (e.g. AASB, APRA, ASIC, GST/BAS)Proficiency in financial reporting, treasury accounting, and compliance with audit requirementsAdvanced Excel and financial modelling skills for forecasting and scenario analysisUnderstanding of local and international banking practices and payment processesFamiliarity with risk management principles and treasury policy complianceHigh attention to detail and accuracy in reconciliation and reportingStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work under pressure and meet tight deadlinesEffective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
