The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure and scalable network infrastructure to support enterprise operations across New Zealand. This role ensures network performance, availability, and compliance with local cybersecurity and data governance standards.

Senior Network Engineer duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Senior Network Engineer include:Designing, deploying, and supporting LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, and firewall solutions across multiple sitesMonitoring and optimising network performance, availability, and capacityTroubleshooting and resolving complex network issues, including escalations from support teamsEnsuring network security practices align with ISO 27001, the NZ Privacy Act, and Essential Eight principles where applicableManaging network hardware and software upgrades, configurations, and lifecycle planningDeveloping and maintaining network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating proceduresImplementing redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery solutions for business continuityCollaborating with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to support integrated network servicesManaging vendor relationships and service provider contracts related to networking

Senior Network Engineer job qualifications and requirements

A degree in computer networking, information technology, or a related field is required. Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Juniper, or Fortinet NSE are preferred.Requirements include:5+ years’ experience in network engineering roles, with senior-level responsibilitiesProficiency in routing, switching, firewalls, and network protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPsec)Experience with enterprise networking tools and hardware (e.g. Cisco, Fortinet, HPE Juniper, Ubiquiti)Strong knowledge of New Zealand cybersecurity and data protection standardsProven ability to manage network projects and lead incident response effortsExcellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills
