The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions to support enterprise technology environments. This role ensures that infrastructure strategies align with business objectives, New Zealand-specific compliance requirements, and best-practice standards.

Infrastructure Architect duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of an Infrastructure Architect include:Designing end-to-end infrastructure architectures across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environmentsLeading the selection and integration of infrastructure platforms, network services, and storage solutionsEnsuring compliance with New Zealand data governance laws, the NZ Privacy Act, and security frameworks such as ISO 27001Developing infrastructure roadmaps aligned with organisational strategy and future growthCollaborating with security, application, and operations teams to ensure system resilience, availability, and performanceProviding architectural oversight for infrastructure projects, including migrations, upgrades, and new implementationsDocumenting infrastructure designs, configurations, and standards to support governance and audit readinessSupporting disaster recovery and business continuity planning aligned with NZ government cloud and resilience guidanceAdvising on cost optimisation and licensing strategies for infrastructure solutions

Infrastructure Architect job qualifications and requirements

A degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required. Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or Cisco CCNP/CCIE are advantageous.Requirements include:7+ years’ experience in infrastructure design and architecture rolesProven expertise in networking, server architecture, virtualisation, and cloud technologies (e.g. Azure, AWS, VMware)Strong understanding of New Zealand-specific compliance standards, including NZ Privacy Act and ISO 27001Experience with infrastructure automation and monitoring toolsExcellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skillsAbility to lead architectural governance and mentor technical teams
